This 3-month-old From Tamil Nadu Needs An Injection Worth Rs 16 Crore For Treatment

A 3-month-old baby from Tamil Nadu is in need of an injection, which costs a whopping Rs 16 crore. The family of the child is a resident of Gounder Mills in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Ramanakumar and Janani have a three-month-old son, who suffers from muscular dystrophy. The child is being treated by doctors, who have advised an injection which is worth Rs 16 crore, for the full treatment of the condition. The injection is called Zolgensma, which is to be imported from the US. According to reports, the parents are struggling to get the money for the treatment. They have sent a petition to the district collector of Coimbatore, urging the government of Tamil Nadu to aid them for their child’s treatment. At the moment, they are trying to raise the money through an app called Impact Guru. People willing to help can also send money on their phone number.

Muscular dystrophy is a genetic condition, which is found in boys mostly. According to studies, it is a group of diseases that causes weakness, and loss of muscle. The reason that is cited behind the condition is that the abnormal genes do not let the body produce proteins needed to form a healthy muscle. Studies state further that although there is no cure for the condition, certain treatments can be taken to help manage the symptoms, and make the progress of the disease slow.

In another similar news, parents and their children, suffering from muscular dystrophy gathered outside the RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) office in Patna, Bihar recently. They cited the demand to open a daycare centre, and a centre of excellence in the State. Around 30 children gathered outside the office. They met with the leaders of RJD, who sent them to meet the health department’s additional secretary for the issue. Reports said further that the health department has written to the centre citing the demands. It will become the 12th centre in the country, if made.
