USA captain Zach Johnson says his team have been hit by illness.
United States captain Zach Johnson has revealed that his team are suffering from illness at the Ryder Cup in Rome.
Luke Donald’s European side jumped out to a massive 6.5 to 1.5 lead after the opening Friday, the first time the US failed to win a game on a Ryder Cup day.
Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland were particularly inspired and ahead of the Day Two, which has already seen Europe take big leads in the top two matches, Johnson revealed that some members of his team are suffering from illness.
“There’s been some unforeseen things that we’ve had to navigate around, which is really unfortunate, in the sense of health,” Johnson said.
“It’s not an excuse because we have depth but I’ll just say I’m grateful we have a team doctor. Guys are fighting and playing regardless.
“It’s one of those where sometimes the energy is probably a little low, but the ability and desire to go out and play is still there.”
