One person died during a weekend downhill mountain biking race at Big White Ski Resort.
Kelowna RCMP have not released a statement, but have confirmed with Postmedia that the coroner is investigating after an incident involving a competitor in the B.C. Cup.
Micheal Ballingall, senior vice-president of Big White Ski Resort, also confirmed that there was a serious accident during the B.C. Cup, which ran Friday through Sunday.
However, he would not provide a statement or any details and deferred all questions to the RCMP.
B.C. Cycling, which organizes the B.C. Cup, has not yet responded to a request for comment.
The B.C. Cup event at Big White was the season opener for the Cup downhill series, which forms Canada’s downhill mountain biking racing series.
Several postings on Facebook say the rider was a Kelowna teenager, but that has not been confirmed yet by the authorities.
