In issuing their heat warning, Environment and Climate Change Canada advised Calgarians to monitor for heat stroke and heat exhaustion, particularly when spending time in the sun — something many are doing on Stampede grounds this weekend, with 138,781 people passing through the gates on Saturday.
Signs of heat stroke or exhaustion can include high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness.
Environment Canada said to beat the heat, Calgarians should consider rescheduling their outdoor activities to cooler hours, and take frequent breaks in cool indoor spaces when possible.
They added people should keep hydrated with water, avoiding alcoholic and caffeinated beverages.
The rest of Stampede should bring cooler — and potentially wetter — weather to the grounds, according to forecasts from the federal agency.
The heat will moderate Monday, with expected highs of 25 C and a 60 per cent chance of showers in the late afternoon, with risk of a thunderstorm.
Tuesday brings a high of 20 with 60 per cent chance of showers, while the rest of the week is partly cloudy with highs in the mid-20s, with some chance of rain on Thursday.
