A Bengaluru court on Tuesday ordered the police to initiate an investigation against Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for allegedly spreading fabricated statements against former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and his son, state BJP chief Vijayendra Yediyurappa.
The court’s order came based on a complaint filed by Yogendra Hodaghatta, a BJP leader and advocate, who said the social media team of the Karnataka Congress headed by Shivakumar spread the fabricated statements to promote enmity and tarnish the image of the two BJP leaders.
The court asked the police to submit a report on the investigation by March 30.
The case against DK Shivakumar comes weeks after the BJP launched the ‘I’m also a Karsevak, Arrest Me Too’ campaign after the arrest of a Karsevak from Hubballi, Srikanth Poojari. He was arrested for his alleged involvement in the riots that broke out after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992.
The Karnataka Congress uploaded a series of posts on its social media pages in response, with one of them featuring a photo of BY Vijayendra holding a placard that reads, “I have taken a bribe of Rs 40,000 crore through RTGS, arrest me.”
Along with DK Shivakumar, a member of the Karnataka Congress’s IT cell is also being investigated.
