Concerns have been raised for Jewish students and teachers in public schools who will be affected if teachers bring activism into the classroom.
Teachers are being urged by the union to discuss activism in class.
“All faiths, all races, all Australian children should be welcomed and inclusively taught and not be shamed or subjected to bullying, harassment,” said Nationals Senate Leader Bridget McKenzie.
“When the very leader in that classroom … is displaying that type of behaviour it really makes it … horrible for the children that are being subjected to it, but encourages a whole new generation of Australians that somehow, it’s okay to pick on Jewish Australians,” she said.
“I think it sets the very worst example – I’m very concerned as a former teacher.”
