When police arrived, the Montreal fire department was already on the scene and bringing the blaze under control, she said.
“The burned car is a total loss and another car that was parked nearby was damaged,” Chèvrefils said.
There was no damage to property and no incendiary device was found at the scene.
Once the fire had been extinguished, the investigation was transferred to to the SPVM arson unit, “since the cause of the fire is currently unknown it seems suspicious,” Chèvrefils said.
The scene has been protected for investigators to try to understand the precise circumstances of the fire, she said. They will also verify whether there are security cameras nearby to help with the investigation, she said.
