With many big hotels in the city hosting Holi celebrations by the poolside when the rest of the city is grappling with water shortage, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has instructed hotels and commercial establishments to not use Cauvery water and borewell water for rain dance.
An advisory to this effect was issued on Wednesday, where BWSSB has instructed not to organise rain dance and pool dance for commercial purpose as entertainment citing lack of rainfall and drying up of borewells in Bengaluru.
Aloft Hotels in Whitefield – an area reeling under water scarcity – is hosting the ‘biggest holi festival’ called Gulaal, promising eight hours of music, celebrity DJs, live food and beverage counter, unlimited colours and carnival theme.
Off Kanakapura Road, Urban Valley Resort is hosting Holi Barsane Wali, a day filled with rain dance, open air lawn with pool access, colours, unlimited food, DJ Party, on March 25.
In the heart of the city, hotel Renaissance is organizing a rain dance as part of ‘Holi Festival Rang Barse’ between March 23 and March 25, from 11 am and 6 pm.
Further, Dhwani-Bar & Kitchen is hosting a ‘Grand Holi Festival’ marking an all-day long party with dry and wet colours.
In order to reduce the demand of potable water, the BWSSB had earlier banned the use of drinking water for washing cars, swimming pools, gardening, road maintenance and construction, building construction among other activities. BWSSB had also announced a fine of Rs 5,000 for violators and an additional Rs 500 every day for repeated violations.
