Exactly a century in the past, Kerala’s Vaikom city which was then within the princely state of Travancore grew to become the epicentre of a historic non-violent motion towards untouchability and caste discrimination.
Vaikom Satyagraha that lasted for 604 days (20 months) from March 30, 1924 to November 23, 1925 marked the daybreak of temple entry actions throughout India.
It was led by visionary leaders like T.Okay. Madhavan, Okay.P. Kesava Menon, and Okay. Kelappan. The Satyagraha attracted nationwide consideration and lots of outstanding leaders got here to take part within the protest, together with Periyar, who got here to Vaikom on the request of barrister George Joseph, who had already been jailed for main the motion.
