Vivek Ramaswamy, an Indian-American Republican presidential hopeful, has expressed his desire for Elon Musk to serve as an advisor in his potential administration should he win the US presidential election in 2024.
The 38-year-old candidate shared this sentiment during a town hall event in Iowa, stating that he values individuals like Musk who bring a fresh perspective, particularly citing Musk’s substantial impact in his role at Twitter last year.
Ramaswamy emphasized the need for advisers who offer unique viewpoints outside of established government circles.
I’ve enjoyed getting to know better, Elon Musk recently, I expect him to be an interesting adviser of mine because he laid off 75% of the employees at Twitter,” Mr. Ramaswamy was quoted as explaining in the report.
“And then the effectiveness actually went up,” he noted.
Ramaswamy, a second-generation Indian-American, established Roivant Sciences in 2014 and spearheaded the most significant biotech IPOs of 2015 and 2016. These endeavors ultimately resulted in prosperous clinical trials across various disease domains, leading to the approval of FDA-regulated products, as stated in his biography.
Meanwhile, Musk, aged 52, stands as the billionaire proprietor of SpaceX, Tesla, and X, the rebranded platform formerly recognized as Twitter.
Highlighting his admiration for Musk’s management approach, Ramaswamy has previously lauded his stewardship of the social media company, now referred to as X, and expressed a vision of governing akin to Musk’s operational style.
“What he did at Twitter is a good example of what I want to do to the administrative state,” Mr.Ramaswamy said in an interview on Fox News last week.
“Take out the 75 per cent of the dead weight cost, improve the actual experience of what it’s supposed to do.”
“He put an X through Twitter, I’ll put a big X through the administrative state,” he added. “So, that’s where I’m at on common tactics with Elon.”
The workforce at X has undergone a significant reduction, plummeting from nearly 8,000 to approximately 1,500 since Musk’s acquisition of Twitter for USD 44 billion last autumn.
Musk, the billionaire who had previously voiced his support for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential bid and co-hosted DeSantis’ eventful campaign launch on Twitter Spaces, recently endorsed Ramaswamy as a “highly promising candidate.”
At just 38 years old, Mr. Ramaswamy stands as the youngest-ever Republican presidential contender. Another Indian-American Republican candidate in the running for the party’s nomination is Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina.
Mr. Ramaswamy’s stance on dismantling the Department of Education, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has been distinctly articulated. His significant wealth also places him among the wealthiest Americans below the age of 40. After studying biology at Harvard and earning a law degree from Yale, he briefly held billionaire status before a stock market downturn reduced his wealth to over USD 950 million, as reported by Forbes.
