Sky News contributor Steve Price says in his view the Victoria Police Force deserves our “100 per cent support” as a wages and conditions dispute threatens to erupt into industrial action.
“Police … in Victoria are now on the edge of an industrial campaign because Police Command and the Victorian Government can not settle a new working agreement,” Mr Price said.
“The police union who are after a four per cent rise and paid overtime have not even had an offer put to them. The current EBA … the working agreement, it runs out in two weeks today.”
Mr Price questioned whether – given what politicians are paying themselves – there is an argument to be had here.
“This year alone, and you might find these numbers confronting, back in July, the political hacks … they were handed a 3.5 per cent pay rise.
“The police want four per cent, and haven’t had even an offer … you know what the base salary of a Victorian backbencher is – hold your breath – $199,000 a year plus perks.”
