THE MIDC Police on Saturday booked two police officers for allegedly extending help to two other persons who were fraudulently usurping a residential flat in Andheri and falsely implicating the flat owner, her husband and daughter by conniving with the accused persons.
As per the complaint, the flat in question, C/302 in Raviraj Apartment, Kadamwadi in Andheri (East), was sold through auction to Mohini Arun Sawant and her daughter Sayali Arun Sawant by Union Bank as per the procedure of Sarfaesi Act, in 2018.
The accused, Faruqi Izaz-ul-Haq, who works for a developer, allegedly prepared forged and bogus documents of the said flat and by claiming that he has bought it from the real owner of the said flat, allegedly illegally threw out the complainant and her daughter out of the flat and started using it for himself, the FIR states.
Haq’s son Rehan also helped him. While the complainant woman and her family was fighting for their flat, police sub-inspector Kalyan Ghadge and inspector Santosh Jadhav, who were then posted with the MIDC police station, allegedly arrested Sawant, her husband and daughter in a robbery case in 2018.
Sawant approached the Andheri court and presented facts before the court and sought action against the culprits. The court on January 8 this year directed the MIDC police station to register a case against Haq, his son and two police officers and further probe the matter.
Acting on the court’s direction, MIDC police station on Saturday booked Haq, Rehan, Ghadge and Jadhav under sections 341, 406, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code and began investigating the matter.
“We spent two days in the lockup for a crime that we never committed. We bought the flat, but it was snatched away from us by the accused persons. We are still living in a rented accommodation despite spending so much money on the flat,” said Sawant.
The police department is also likely to initiate a departmental inquiry against the two accused police officers, sources said.
