The man, 30, who emigrated to Canada and then the UK and did not wish to be named, said: “I’ve definitely been more outspoken since the Sheikh Jarrah movement in 2021, before it was trickier and we didn’t feel like people would listen.”
“Post 2021 we were able to break through the fact that antisemitism is not antizionism and we felt we could show the world our plight.”
Asked about protesters who had made abusive and anti-Semitic remarks in prior demonstrations, his friend, 29, a Canadian national, said: “I don’t think you see it often and it’s not from people who support a liberated Palestine – a liberated Palestine is interconnected with human safety.
“From the river to the sea is meant to take us back to 1948 so when we say the river to the sea that means a democratic, mixed secular state with equal rights for every person.”
At around 8pm the protesters left the square outside the station and the demonstration appeared to have finished.
