The BJP top brass is stepping up its campaigning for the sixth and seventh phases of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address two rallies in East Champaran and Maharajganj in Bihar before proceeding to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh for another public meeting. Later in the day, PM Modi will address a “Nari Shakti Samvad” in his Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi.
Arvind Mishra, the BJP’s media in-charge for Varanasi, said Monday that PM Modi will interact with more than 25,000 women — including homemakers, doctors, teachers, business owners, advocates, and athletes — during the Nara Shakti Samvad event at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University.
Mishra said the BJP’s women workers have been asked to bring 10 women residents from every booth for the event while the party’s Mahila Morcha functionaries are inviting various social organisations, students and teachers of women’s colleges for their participation in it.
While East Champaran, Maharajganj and Prayagraj vote in the sixth phase on May 25, Varanasi goes to polls in the seventh and final phase on June 1.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be in Odisha, where he will address public meetings in Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Puri. The BJP has fielded Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan from the Sambalpur seat. All these four seats are going to polls in the sixth phase.
BJP president J P Nadda will be in Haryana and Delhi on Tuesday. While he will participate in two roadshows in Rohtak and Jind (Hisar Lok Sabha) in Haryana, he will also hold a roadshow in South Delhi. Later, he will address a rally in Chandni Chowk. While Rohtak and Hisar will vote in the final phase, South Delhi and Chandni Chowk are going to polls on May 25.
Kharge in Haryana
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will also be in Haryana, where he will address a public meeting in Yamunanagar of the Ambala Lok Sabha constituency, which is bound for voting in the sixth phase on May 25. He will then address press conferences in Ambala as well as Chandigarh.
SC to hear Hemant Soren bail plea
The Supreme Court is set to hear on Tuesday the plea of jailed Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) executive president and ex-chief minister Hemant Soren for interim bail.
A vacation bench of the apex court would hear Soren’s plea for bail to be able to campaign for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has opposed his “special prayer” for interim bail.
The former Jharkhand CM was booked and arrested by the ED in January in an alleged land scam case. Before getting arrested, Soren stepped down as the CM, and his senior party colleague, Champai Soren, succeeded him.
