The Highway Police are conducting an investigation to ascertain how the accident took place, said Dr Shivraj Manaspure, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Central Railway (CR), adding that the car hit the highway barricade before falling on to the moving train.
The goods train was en route from Panvel to Karjat in Raigad district — a single-line route where only goods trains travel. As the car fell in between two coaches, they got decoupled, said Manaspure.
Following the incident, Panvel-Karjat section of the CR was temporarily closed between 3.43 am and 7.32 am. Train no. 17317 Hubli-Dadar Express, was redirected via the Karjat-Kalyan route due to the incident, and skipped the Panvel station halt, according to CR.
