Authorities have caught a man carrying Rs 14 lakh inside his clothing at Tamil Nadu, in violation of the Model Code of Conduct of the Lok Sabha Elections, officials said on Monday.
The man, identified as Vino, was caught from inside a bus at the Walayar check post at the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border after officials became suspicious of his clothing.
The man was then made to disembark from the bus, and during frisking, he pulled out bundles of cash from the lining inside his shirt.
As per the Model Code of Conduct, an individual is allowed to carry only Rs 50,000 and needs necessary documentation for any denomination being carried above the permitted amount.
Officials seized the amount, and the Income Tax department was notified. Further investigation is underway.
Kerala is set to go to the polls on April 26 to elect its Lok Sabha MPs. Ahead of the voting, officials have intensified checking along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
