This in from Vincent Desharnais, his moving and revealing interview with Tony Marinaro of the Sick Podcast, where Desharnais describes his journey from despair and depression as a concussed minor pro player to his process to deal with anxiety, set and achieve goals and handle the pressure of playing on the Stanley Cup contending Edmonton Oilers.  Desharnais was 26 when he played his first NHL game, and it only came after much struggle, four years in college hockey, then 3.5 years in minor pro, including a full year in the ECHL.

We were thrilled when the Oilers drafted. We were certain he would be a star. Hell, legendary NHL coach Scotty Bowman compared his talent to that of Russian supernova Pavel Bure. Many of us became besotted with his potential in his early days in Edmonton. Some of remained that way even after he was traded away. But 11 years after Nail Yakupov was taken first overall in the 2012 NHL entry draft, an argument can be made that in all the years of the NHL draft, he was the worst pick.
