Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards celebrate excellence across the tourism industry, with winners determined by votes from industry professionals and the public. This year, Sydney emerged as Oceania’s Leading City Destination, a testament to its status as a world-class travel hub.
In addition to this accolade, Sydney’s The Langham Hotel was named Oceania’s Best Hotel, and the newly opened W Sydney received the award for Best New Hotel. These awards further solidify Sydney’s reputation as a premier destination for both luxury and innovation in hospitality.
Beyond Sydney, Indigenous tourism also shone brightly, with Ayers Rock Resort recognized for its commitment to responsible tourism. The resort’s cultural storytelling experience, Wintjiri Wiru, was named Oceania’s Leading Tourist Attraction, surpassing iconic contenders like the Great Barrier Reef and Sydney Opera House.
Qantas Airways made headlines by being named Oceania’s Leading Airline Brand, breaking Air New Zealand’s seven-year winning streak. Meanwhile, Sydney Airport was recognized as the best in Oceania, rounding out a successful night for Australian travel and tourism.
