Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday directed officials to stop the practice of people displaying their caste on their vehicles.

Adityanath, who reached Varanasi on Thursday for a two-day visit, told officials during a review meeting that such practice needs to be banned.

“People are often seen displaying their castes on the vehicles’ registration number plates and windshields. Sometimes they put up additional display boards in the front area of their vehicles to display their caste. The chief minister has directed to stop such practices,” said an official.

During the review of law and order, the chief minister ordered the training of Home Guards and PRD personnel, and deploy them in the traffic management system.

Referring to incidents of chain snatching, the CM directed to take cognizance of every minor incident “as such incidents too can escalate into major issues”.

He also instructed police personnel for consistent foot patrolling in police-designated zones.

Laying emphasis on the expansion of Varanasi city along the Ring Road and setting up of bus stands and ‘transport nagar’ there, the CM told officials to complete construction works within the time-limit by a robust drive.

The chief minister instructed the district Chief Medical Officer to ensure the timely completion of all preparations to deal with communicable diseases, adding that negligence would not be tolerated.

“Proper arrangements should be made in hospitals for treatment of infectious diseases like dengue, chikungunya, and others. Preparations include spraying medications in the affected areas and ensuring the 24-hour presence of doctors in the OPD,” the CM said.

The chief minister also asked the officials of Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) to resolve public issues conveniently and further directed all the departmental officers to be present in their respective offices on time and ensure speedy disposal of public complaints on a priority basis.

“Get the work done on the basis of merit. Street vendors should be rehabilitated safely in the zone and accountability should be fixed for those who are negligent,” the CM said in the meeting.

Laying emphasis on the cleanliness of the city ahead of the G20 meetings in the city, Adityanath directed the Municipal Commissioner to ensure the cleanliness of the city with daily picking of garbage. He also stressed the need to pay special attention to regular cleaning of city toilets.

Emphasizing that all possible preparations should be completed to deal with the possible flood situation, the CM said that in case of flood, immediate facilities should be made available to the affected people of the area. Along with cleanliness, police patrolling should also be done in the flood-affected areas, he said.

The CM directed to expedite revenue collection by conducting regular reviews. Special emphasis was laid on the disposal of revenue disputes on priority, the CM said.
