Two suspects sought in connection to the fatal stabbing of Danillo Canales Glenn in Copperfield on Tuesday have been taken into custody, according to a Saturday update from the Calgary Police Service, and charges are pending.
Glenn and two friends were at a basketball court in the 0-100 block of Copperstone Road S.E. on the evening of Sept. 5, when two unknown individuals approached them. Following a brief altercation, Glenn was sprayed with bear spray and sustained fatal stab wounds.
Two days after Glenn’s death, more than 200 people gathered at a vigil in Copperfield to pay tribute to the teenager. Tearful attendees, including family and friends, stuffed flowers through the chain-link fence perimeter of the court where the stabbing occurred and released D-shaped balloons into the sky.
Among those grieving the 18-year-old is Miguel Nieto Cepeda, who called Glenn “more than family” on Saturday.
“He meant so much, not only to me, but to so many other people as well,” he said. “Danillo was the kindest soul, the best person you could ever meet.
“I hope you can hear this, the two people who did this to my friend, and you rot in a jail cell.”
Nieto Cepeda said he hopes people will continue supporting a GoFundMe page that was set up in the wake of Glenn’s death to support funeral and burial costs. As of Saturday afternoon, $6,575 had been raised toward a goal of $15,000. The page can be found at gofundme.com/f/danillo-canalesglenn
