Police have sadly confirmed reports of six sudden deaths at HM Prison Parc in Bridgend, South Wales. According to South Wales Police, four of these deaths are believed to be linked to drugs, while the other two are not considered suspicious. These tragic incidents have occurred since February 27.
Detective Steve Jones emphasized that while they cannot yet confirm if the deaths are connected to a specific drug, a fast-track process revealed the presence of Nitazene-based substances in connection with all four drug-related deaths. Spice, a known synthetic cannabinoid, was identified in two of the fatalities.
Postmortems have been conducted on two of the deceased individuals, but the cause of death remains inconclusive pending toxicology reports. The remaining two cases are awaiting postmortem examinations.
HMP Parc, which opened in 1997, is categorized as a men’s private prison and young offenders institution, operated by security firm G4S. This unfortunate series of events has underscored the challenges and risks associated with substance abuse within correctional facilities.
