It’s the biggest gig of his acting career so Cillian Murphy took his lead role in box-office blockbuster Oppenheimer so seriously he refused to eat with the rest of the star cast on set in New Mexico. The Peaky Blinders star, who plays US nuclear physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, says he wasn’t snubbing his A-list colleagues, who include Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh and Robert Downey Jr. Explaining why he wouldn’t join their dinner dates, the Irishman said: “You know that when you have those big roles, that responsibility, you feel it’s kind of overwhelming.” It was no hard feelings from Damon and Blunt, who accepted his excuse. “The sheer volume of what he had to take on and shoulder is so monumental. Of course he didn’t want to come and have dinner with us,” Blunt said ahead of this week’s cinema opening.
Padam! Kylie Minogue says Aussie fans will be seeing her soon if she gets her way with her management. The 55-year-old is on a hot streak with her catchiest ditty in decades, Padam Padam, and is itching to play it live. With speculation the Melbournian could play this year’s AFL grand final, Minogue teases: “I didn’t get to tour the last album, Disco, so it’s so frustrating. So yeah, we’re looking into dates currently, so hopefully, hopefully, I can make that happen.”

The sultry American singer is back on top form with her 54 million monthly listenership, but she admits she’s considered jacking in fame. “I never forget the abyss, those moments when nothing worked, where I was seriously considering quitting. There really was a feeling of failure,” the 38-year-old Glastonbury performer said. “I had no other choice than to continue, because I don’t know how to do anything else. Courage would have been to disappear. But as I was already famous, I took the easy way out. I continued to make records. There was no plan B.”
