I made contributions to CPP with my own earned money. Even though I had no choice, it was the right thing to do. It forced me to save for my retirement and unlike company pension plans it is secure from bankruptcies. CCP manages $0.5 trillion and does it much better than AimCo which had a negative return on investment in 2022.

Because of the size of its funds, it can compete with large multinational banks and pension funds for lucrative investments. It is not restricted to investing in Canada. The Quebec Pension Plan invests a large portion in Quebec just like Alberta would like to do. The difference is that Quebec has more large profitable corporations than Alberta and double the population.

The premier stated that Alberta has proportionally contributed more than it received (in pension payments) from CPP.That’s because Alberta has had a younger generation for many years. This will not always be so.

The premier claimed that contributions would go down and current pension payments from CPP would be higher. Reduced revenue and increased expenses lead to failure. This bodes not well for an aging population in 20 years.

To the premier; keep your hands off my money. If not, someone should start a class action lawsuit.

Officers, citizens let down by LERB ruling

Re. “Officer who stole while on duty gets to keep his job,” Sept. 19

My sincere apologies to you, Edmonton. You unquestionably deserve better and so do the men and women in blue who have been let down by the LERB in this case. There are officers with unwavering integrity and a commitment to upholding their duty, whose reputation is being sullied by the actions of a few. Now, they will have to work alongside this individual, relying on him with their lives and placing their trust in him while harbouring doubts about his integrity. If you’re upset, just try to imagine how they must be feeling.

Drawing from my experience as a police officer, many first responders, including myself, grapple with depression and PTSD. However, engaging in a deliberate criminal act and subsequently trying to mask it as well-intentioned, once there’s a chance of being discovered, doesn’t align with my experience and understanding of these conditions. This trend is also profoundly disrespectful to those enduring PTSD and depression, as it exploits these debilitating conditions as a rationale and excuse for calculated criminal behaviour.

Indeed, you have every reason to feel angered and appalled by this decision, and it appears that the Edmonton police share these sentiments. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that nobody dislikes bad cops more than the good ones.

Trudeau turning world against Canada

Both China and India have issued caution notices against tourism in Canada. If you’re not keeping track, Justin Trudeau’s foreign policy has upset 2.8 billion people (not including the millions in Canada).
