We’ve all heard the term ‘givers gain’ and know that it usually feels better to give than to receive — that said, most people don’t spend their free time helping others.
But 53-year-old Mary McMahon, who lives in Dublin with her partner Paul, has just been awarded the post of Volunteer Director for Dublin Samaritans, after dedicating precious time to people in need for 21 years. Having seen a friend go through grief with nowhere to turn for help, she was determined that others shouldn’t have to go through the same thing and so began two decades of volunteering.
