Cape Town Tourism and the City of Cape Town have just announced the direct flights between Cape Town and São Paulo, set to commence from October 2023. These routes represent South African Airways’ dedication to revitalizing the “South to South Trade and Travel Corridor,” strengthening relations between South Africa and Brazil.

Engagements in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have successfully contributed to the launch of these direct flights and the deepening of ties between the two nations.

Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, expresses pride in SAA’s initiative to introduce these direct flights, emphasizing their role in reinforcing connections between the destinations.

Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, commends SAA and the Air Access team at Wesgro for their efforts in securing these routes. He highlights the importance of Brazil as South Africa’s largest trading partner in Latin America and how the direct flights will enhance relations, boost trade, and attract more South American tourists to Cape Town.

Professor John Lamola, Interim CEO of South African Airways, shares the excitement, marking São Paulo as their first international destination since emerging from the Business Rescue process and the Covid-19 lockdown.

‘We are overjoyed to announce São Paulo as our first international destination since the airline successfully emerged from an intensive Business Rescue process and Covid-19 lockdown,’ he said. ‘It also marks the return of our long-haul service out of Cape Town.’

Enver Duminy concludes by highlighting their long-term commitment to support and promote the success of these routes, fostering growth and shared prosperity between South Africa and Brazil.
