King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince Wiliam, and Kate, Princess of Wales often travel overseas for royal engagements, sometimes for weeks at a time to do entire tours.

While there are few places the senior royals have not ventured across the world, their personal holiday destinations are a little closer to home.

And while they have the means to go almost anywhere, the families within the British monarchy are stipplers for tradition when it comes to taking a trip abroad.

Princess Kate and Prince William, for example, are known as lovers of a humble staycation in the isles of Scilly. But they also enjoy excursions in the Swiss Alps and beside the crystal clear waters that border the Caribbean coastline.

The idyllic getaways are loved by King Charles and Queen Camilla too, who also visit a host of other countries right here in Europe.

Mustique, Saint Vincent

Surrounded by both the Atlantic and Caribbean seas, the coastline in Mustique is one-of-a-kind with nine dramatically contrasting beaches and a plethora of coves to explore.

The Grenadian island is loved by the Prince and Princess of Wales who last visited with their three young children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis back in 2019.

Mustique was purchased in 1958 by Colin Tennant, third Baron Glenconner – for £48,000, though is now thought to be worth upwards of £1.25million. A 10-acre plot on the private island was gifted to the late Princess Margaret, which she used to build Les Jolies Eaux – a theatrical neo-Georgian villa designed by Oliver Messel.

While the villa can be rented to this day, William and Kate prefer to stay elsewhere. During their last visit, the Wales’s resided at Villa Antilles, a five-bedroom contemporary Colonial-style abode owned by William’s friend, Andrew Dunn.

Corfu, Greece

Corfu is northernmost of the Ionian Islands in Greece, situated in the Adriatic sea to the east of Italy and southwest of Albania.

The idyllic retreat is popular among many Britons during the summer, with whom King Charles and Queen Camilla share the same fondness for the island. Most recently, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, holidayed in Corfu with his family last July.

While its sun-soaked climate, breathtaking views and iconic Mediterranean landscape are common attractions, the royals love Corfu for its diverse populations of flora and fauna. Home to an impressive 4,000 olive trees and an estimated 6,000 species of herbs and flowers, it’s no wonder why the Greek island is beloved by the King and Queen.

Rothschild Villa in Kerasia has been coined “Kensington Summer Palace” as the home of the royal pair when they visit the island. Complete with lush greenery, waterfalls and unique forestry, the island’s regal associations date back to Prince Phillip’s childhood, as the birthplace of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s husband.

Klosters, Switzerland

Though their repetoire of holiday destinations consists mainly of sun-soaked spots, the royals love to ski, too.

Klosters is an elegant chalet-style village in Switzerland that boasts authentic traditions and an international flair thanks to its clientele.

A favourite of King Charles, who has holidayed here for many years, the mountainous landscape has served as the backdrop of many fond family memories. The late Princess Diana used to frequent the resort during her marriage to Charles, when the couple would visit with their then-young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

In 2004, Prince William and Princess Kate made their debut as a couple on a skiing break in Klosters, during which they shared their very first public kiss.
