Several groups in Mysuru Saturday protested against rationalist K S Bhagawan’s alleged recent remark insulting the Vokkaliga community.
They staged a protest outside Bhagawan’s residence in Mysuru’s Kuvempu Nagar. Several BJP and JD(S) leaders have also criticised Bhagawan for his remark.

Bhagawan purportedly made the statement while addressing a Mahisha Dasara event at the Town Hall Friday.

Reacting sharply to Bhagawan’s statement, BJP leader Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said, “The so-called intellectuals should make their agenda clear or admit that they are here to promote anti-Hindu sentiments… While allowing celebrations like Mahisha Utsava, the state government should openly admit that they oppose Goddess Chamundi and festivals like Dasara, Navaratri…”
Meanwhile, JD(S) leader G T Devegowda said, “Bhagawan was born in Hunsur taluk in a village where Vokkaligas are prominent. It is because of Vokkaliga community values that he is what he is today. By insulting Vokkaligas, he has insulted himself. It is also unbecoming of a professor. Those who are cultured will not talk like this.”
Bhagawan is no stranger to controversy. He has been at the receiving end of criticism for his alleged ‘anti-Hindu’ remarks earlier as well.
