A large number of RCMP officers in North Vancouver raced to an underground parking garage Saturday evening after a security guard reported seeing a group of men in body armour carrying rifles.

It turned out to be an amateur film set and the guns were fake.

Police discovered the men were in the parking area on Marine Drive for an action film that turned out to not have permits and they had not informed nearby businesses or residents of filming.

Police say the film crew were given a warning and given information about city protocols around filming in public spaces.

Const. Mansoor Sahak said the North Vancouver RCMP takes reports involving firearms very seriously and will always respond with a level of force appropriate for a real event.

“We are glad that no one was seriously injured while responding to the potential threat,” Sahak said in a statement, adding responding to such incidents hurt the ability of police to respond to true emergencies.
