Rocky Mountain House RCMP are investigating a fatal shooting at the Sunchild First Nation Gas Station in west-central Alberta.
Police learned of the shooting at 8:23 a.m. on Sunday, RCMP said in a news release.

Upon arrival, first responders began treating a wounded man they found at the scene, but he died as a result of his injuries, the release said.
Police said while the investigation is in its early stages, preliminary evidence indicates the victim and a suspect got into a verbal spat that resulted in the shooting.

RCMP said they have not yet established a link between the victim and any potential suspects.
“We would like to assure the public that we are taking this investigation very seriously and have deployed additional officers to both efficiently investigate this crime and increase our visibility in the community to deter future incidents,” said the news release.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit have now taken over the investigation.
RCMP are asking members of the public to assist in locating the suspect’s vehicle. It is described as a Black Jeep Grande Cherokee.
Sunchild First Nation is about 240 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
