The Paris Olympics have been forced to postpone the men’s skateboarding on day one of the Games due to adverse weather conditions.

The skateboarding action had been due to begin this morning, with the men’s street preliminaries and men’s street final originally scheduled to take place across the day at the Place de la Concorde in the French capital.

But the wet weather – which made for a soggy opening ceremony on the River Seine on Friday night – has meant the event has been rescheduled to Monday for safety reasons.

The timings will remain the same, though, meaning the men’s street preliminaries are due for 11am-2pm and the men’s street final is set to take place at 4-6pm in two days’ time.

It means there are now only 13 gold medals up for grabs on the opening day and Games organisers are expected to issue an update on the rescheduling in the coming hours.

‘Due to adverse overnight weather conditions and following a meeting this morning with all relevant organisers, the decision has been taken to postpone men’s street skateboarding at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games until Monday 29th of July,’ a World Skate statement read.

A total of four gold medals are on offer across two disciplines at the Olympics – men’s and women’s street skateboarding and men’s and women’s park skateboarding.

The women’s street event is due to take place on Sunday and Games organisers will no doubt be hoping the poor weather does not force another postponement.
