Eight Namibian cheetahs, comprising 5 females and three males, have been dropped at the KNP and launched into particular enclosures by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 final yr as a part of an bold reintroduction programme of the species.

Later, 12 cheetahs – seven males and 5 females – have been dropped at the nationwide park from South Africa on February 18 this yr.

Cheetah Jwala, earlier generally known as Siyaya, who was translocated from Namibia, gave beginning to 4 cubs on the KNP in March this yr.

Three of the cubs died earlier this month.

These cubs have been the primary to be born within the wild on Indian soil after the final cheetah was hunted in Korea district of present-day Chhattisgarh in 1947.

Other than these cheetah cubs, three of the 20 grownup cheetahs – Daksha, Sasha and Uday – translocated from South Africa and Namibia have died on the KNP.
