If the newest rumours are to be believed, Nintendo is aping Sony and Microsoft when it comes to handling its next console.

While the world waits for Nintendo to announce the Switch 2, or whatever it’s called, rumours concerning the next console continue to seep out of the woodwork.

The latest claims come from SoldierDelta, who previously leaked screenshots of Rise Of The Ronin ahead of its announcement and supplied industry leaker TheSnitch with info about a supposed God Of War Ragnarök DLC expansion.

Aside from claiming to have heard precisely when the Switch 2 will launch, they add that Nintendo is essentially copying Sony and Microsoft’s strategy for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S by making a cheaper digital-only model.

Said digital model will allegedly cost $400 (which is about £326) while the standard model that plays physical games will cost $449 (about £367).

For comparison’s sake, the current Switch model on its own costs £259.99 on Nintendo’s website, making its successor substantially more expensive, which seems like a given considering how prices across the industry have been going up.

As for the launch date, SoldierDelta lists September 24, 2024, which does line-up with the rumours of a late 2024 launch window. However, they add that Nintendo has a reserve date of November 3 should it need to push the console back.

These claims were shared on Discord and have since been screengrabbed and shared online, but SoldierDelta has also offered further clarification via the Famiboards forum.

While they don’t say where they obtained this information, they add that the price point is subject to change. They also admit to being sceptical about the proposed launch dates, although they describe it as the only ‘red flag’ about the details they were given.

In addition, they corroborate previous rumours of the next Nintendo console not featuring an OLED screen and boasting AR functionality.

Considering Nintendo itself has said next to nothing about its next console, there’s no real way to tell whether the rumours are true other than than the source has proven reliable in the past.

Recently, Nintendo did acknowledge that there will be a ‘next console’ but it also remains committed to supporting the current Switch past March 2024, suggesting there may be unannounced projects beyond the likes of Princess Peach: Showtime! and the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake.
