Balkaur Singh, father of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Moosewala, alleged on Tuesday that the government was “harassing him, asking him to prove the legitimacy of his newborn son,” just two days after the child’s birth.
In a video posted on his social media platforms, Balkaur Singh claimed that the district administration had been pressuring him since morning to provide documents regarding his newborn. He appealed to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for time to complete his wife’s treatment before submitting the necessary paperwork.

“Since morning, the district administration has been harassing me to provide documents for my child. I am being bombarded with questions to prove my child’s legitimacy,” stated Balkaur Singh in the video.
Addressing the government, he urged, “Let my wife’s treatment be completed. I am here, and I will continue to be here. I will comply with any summons you issue. But if you are trying to harass me, be prepared to face consequences. I am not one to backtrack. I have always respected the law, and I will provide all necessary legal documents to clear my name.”
Responding to the allegations, Deputy Commissioner of Mansa, Paramvir Singh, denied any directives from the district administration regarding Balkaur Singh’s newborn. He clarified, “As far as we are concerned, nobody from the district administration has been instructed to verify any details regarding Mr. Balkaur Singh’s child.”
The newborn, named Shubhdeep after Moosewala, was born at Jindal Hospital in Bathinda on Sunday. Despite the joyous occasion, Balkaur Singh’s allegations have cast a shadow over the celebration. Moosewala, a prominent figure in the Punjab music industry, was tragically murdered in May 2022, leaving behind a legacy of influential music.
Known for his lyrical prowess and immense popularity among the youth, Moosewala’s untimely demise shook his fans and admirers. Even after his death, his music continues to resonate with millions of listeners.
Moosewala’s parents, Charan Kaur (58) and Balkaur Singh (60), have been thrust into the spotlight following the birth of their son. Sources revealed that the couple had undergone IVF treatment abroad last year, opting to keep the procedure private until its success.
