If you cross paths with a wild rabbit while out enjoying the sun, but you think it’s actually a hare, here’s a quick breakdown.
Hares are bigger and have longer hind legs and ears. They’re more solitary, living alone or with one companion, while rabbits prefer communal living. Hares nest, while rabbits have underground homes. Merriam-Webster confuses the point: “A jackrabbit is really a hare, but a swamp hare is really a rabbit.”
