JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi civil rights lawyer was arrested Saturday after filming a site visitors cease performed by officers from a police division she is suing in federal court docket, her legal professional says.
Jill Collen Jefferson is the president of JULIAN, the civil rights group that filed a federal lawsuit final 12 months towards the Lexington Police Division on behalf of a gaggle of metropolis residents. Jefferson was booked within the Holmes County Jail, the place she stays pending a court docket listening to, which hadn’t been scheduled as of Sunday morning.
Carr stated Police Chief Charles Henderson ultimately agreed to launch her with out posting bond. However Jefferson refuses to pay a $35 processing payment levied by the jail for her launch as a result of she believes her arrest was illegal.
