A man is expected to survive after he was shot in broad daylight in a Whitby park Tuesday afternoon.

Durham Regional Police say they received “multiple reports of gunshots” in the area of Westfield Dr. and Des Newman Blvd. – near Dundas St. W. and Hwy. 412 – around 2:40 p.m.

“Officers arrived on scene and spoke with numerous witnesses who heard multiple gunshots,” Const. Nicholas Gluckstein said Wednesday. “No victims were located on scene, however, police located numerous shell casings.”
He said police learned soon after that a man suffering from a gunshot wound had shown up at a local area hospital.
“The victim stated that he was shot in a park near the reported area,” Gluckstein said, adding the man is in “stable condition.”

No suspect descriptions have been released.
“This appears to be an isolated incident,” Gluckstein said. “At this time, there are no safety concerns to the public.”
