Borussia Moenchengladbach have scored a late goal at home to earn a point in a 2-2 German Bundesliga draw with Mainz.
But the late drama on Friday night couldn’t stop the visitors getting off the bottom of the table, even if they remain winless after seven games.
Mainz have only two points and sit 17th, only above FC Cologne in the relegation zone. Gladbach, meanwhile, moved up to 12th, but are far from safety and just three points above the drop zone.
The hosts broke the deadlock at Borussia-Park in the 22nd minute after their persistence paid off and Florian Neuhaus headed the ball past goalkeeper Robin Zentner for Gladbach’s opener.
But Mainz had the perfect response and 19-year-old Brajan Gruda scored his first Bundesliga goal to level just two minutes later.
Bo Svensson’s side took the lead in the 75th when Aymen Barkok hit the net after missing a big chance just a few minutes before. But the turnaround didn’t last long and Gladbach found the equaliser through Joe Scally in the 88th.
Leaders Bayer Leverkusen face bottom club Cologne on Sunday, when defending champions Bayern Munich host Freiburg.
