Simon, loving all the blogs and articles so far done by the ABC. Which team has impressed you the most so far and which one has disappointed you the most?

Hi Lewis,
Thanks for those kind words and your cracking question.
There are a handful of teams that have caught my eye to be honest, but I have to admit that I was hugely impressed by Germany.
The Frauenteam, beaten European finalists last year, were excellent against Morocco. Scoring six goals in a tournament where goals have not been quite as easy to come by for some was a real statement.
Other than that Japan have looked very sharp and could reasonably have scored more in both their one and a half games so far.
But I guess those are obvious answers.

Outside the mainstream, Haiti were excellent against England and really played their role superbly, as indeed were Ireland against the Matildas – just two of the debutant teams that have performed well.
I think a lot of people would have expected the World Cup debutants to just roll over against the co-hosts – even without Sam Kerr – but they were very impressive and I’m looking forward to see how they go against Canada tonight.
As for who has disappointed – England were not as good as I’d hoped for and it looks like they are still searching for their best team, which is not ideal when you’re already in the tournament, yet a clear illustration as to how much of an impact their recent injuries and retirements have had on the team.

I also have to admit I expected a bit more from Norway than what they’ve shown so far. But it’s very early doors.
Why not throw this one open to the floor? Who has impressed you most in this tournament so far, and who has failed to fire?
