Laval police have turned to the public in an effort to determine whether a pair of fraud suspects arrested earlier this month had other victims.
Jean-Yves Caron, 56, and Borris-Armel Bahouely Kraye, 27, were arrested April 18 in connection with six frauds committed in Laval during the autumn of 2023 that saw more than $25,000 taken from the victims.

Police allege the pair engaged in the “bank manager scam” that saw one of the suspects impersonate a bank official named “Jean-Pierre Labonté,” who informed the victim — usually an elderly person — by telephone that they believed a fraud had been committed with their bank card.

Once their trust had been gained, the victims were convinced to place their bank cards — along with a list of their personal identification numbers — in an envelope that was then picked up at the victims’ homes by a bank “investigator,” the fraudster’s accomplice.
The cards were then used to withdraw funds from bank machines and make purchases in stores.
Caron and Bahouely Kraye have appeared in court to face charges of fraud and identity theft. Caron was released pending his next court appearance while Bahouely Kraye remains in custody.
Investigators say they have reason to believe the suspects had other victims in the Montreal area and are urging anyone with any information that could further the investigation to contact them through the Laval police information line at 450-662-4636, contact their local police or call 911 and mention file LVL-231103-065.
In the meantime, police are reminding the public that no financial institution will ever send an employee to someone’s home to collect bank documents or a sum of money.
