Netflix‘s adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved anime, One Piece, made its debut on August 31st, 2023, and fans have already devoured all eight episodes. Now, the burning question on everyone’s mind is whether there will be a second season.

The series follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates, led by the spirited Captain Luffy, portrayed by Iñaki Godoy. Their quest takes them across vast oceans in search of the fabled “one piece” treasure, which holds the key to Luffy becoming the King of Pirates.

While the first season concludes on a hopeful note for the crew, they have yet to uncover the elusive treasure, leaving room for future episodes. So, without further delay, let’s dive into what we know about the possibility of One Piece Season 2, including news, potential storylines, and any hints about a release date.

Is One Piece Season 2 Confirmed?

As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding a second season. Given that the first season just premiered on Netflix, it’s unlikely that any announcements will be made in the immediate future. However, given the massive fanbase, it’s safe to assume that there is a strong appetite for more.

The live-action adaptation of One Piece on Netflix closely follows the events of the anime’s first season and also draws inspiration from the East Blue manga saga. With over 1,000 animated episodes and 20 seasons in the original series as of August 2023, there’s an abundance of source material for potential future seasons to explore.

What Might Happen in One Piece Season 2?

A possible hint about Season 2’s direction can be found in the post-credits scene of Season 1. The scene introduces a mysterious character known as Smoker, who possesses the ability to transform into smoke. It’s implied that the Straw Hat Pirates may face off against Smoker, potentially setting the stage for a central plot point in Season 2.

Additionally, the vast amount of content from the anime series leaves plenty of room for Netflix to draw inspiration for future seasons. Season 1 of the original series alone consists of 61 episodes, indicating that there is much more to explore.

Who Could We Expect to See in One Piece Season 2?

If Season 2 is confirmed, it’s likely that the cast from Season 1 will return, including:

Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy

Mackenyu Arata as Roronoa Zoro

Emily Rudd as Nami

Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp

Taz Skylar as Sanji

Langley Kirkwood as Captain Morgan

Aidan Scott as Helmeppo

Jeff Ward as Buggy

Peter Gadiot as Shanks

Steven John Ward as Dracule Mihawk

Craig Fairbrass as Chef Zeff

McKinley Belcher III as Arlong

One Piece Season 2 Release Date Speculation

While there is no official confirmation, we can make some educated guesses based on the timeline of Season 1. Filming for Season 1 began in January 2022 and wrapped up in August 2022, with the series being released a year later in August 2023. If this pattern continues, and Season 2 is confirmed in the coming weeks, production might commence in January 2024, potentially leading to a summer 2025 release.

Until then, fans may find themselves rewatching One Piece Season 1 while eagerly awaiting news of the second season.

Where Can You Watch the One Piece Adaptation?

As of July 2023, One Piece Season 1 is available for streaming on Netflix. The streaming service offers various subscription options, with the most affordable plan priced at £4.99 a month, which includes advertisements. The Standard plan, priced at £10.99 a month, offers 1080p resolution and allows simultaneous streaming on up to four screens.
