A teacher at a Kelowna secondary school has been charged with luring a child.
According to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy, police began investigating an allegation in May 2023 that a Kelowna teacher had “engaged in inappropriate communication with a student.”

The case was reviewed by the Kelowna Sex Crimes Unit and the teacher — Jeffrey Allen Jennens — was arrested and placed on a number of conditions pending further investigation.

The investigation file was forwarded to the B.C. Prosecution Service and on Aug. 18, 2023 Jennens was charged with luring a child contrary to Section 172.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada. This section has three subsections that relate to luring a child under 18, under 16 and under 14. The RCMP did not disclose which subsection related to this case.
Jennens is listed as a teacher on the Rutland Senior Secondary website.
