“Why are you back now?” “The emeralds…” MGM Amazon Studios has revealed the first official trailer for a wacky crime comedy called Brothers, the latest from Palm Springs writer / director Max Barbakow. It’s set for a release in October this fall, streaming on Prime Video in addition to some theaters (probably required by the actor’s contracts) for only a week. “Family is a life sentence.” Two criminal twin brothers, one trying to reform, embark on a dangerous heist road trip. Facing legal troubles, gunfights, and family drama, they must reconcile their differences before their mission leads to self-destruction. Josh Brolin’s attempt at going straight is derailed when he reunites with his sanity-testing twin brother for the score of a lifetime. Brothers stars Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage as the titular brothers, plus Taylour Paige, M. Emmet Walsh, Jennifer Landon, with Brendan Fraser and Glenn Close. This doesn’t seem to be that great of a trailer for this movie – not much of the footage is that funny almost like it’s meant to be made-for-TV movie. Huh.
Here’s the first official trailer (+ poster) for Max Barbakow’s comedy Brothers, direct from YouTube:
Brothers tells the story of a reformed criminal (Josh Brolin) whose attempt at going straight is derailed when he reunites with his sanity-testing twin brother (Peter Dinklage) on a cross-country road trip for the score of a lifetime. Dodging bullets, the law, and an overbearing mother along the way, they must heal their severed family bond before they end up killing each other. Brothers is directed by acclaimed American writer / filmmaker Max Barbakow, director of the movie Palm Springs previously, and the TV special The Improv Guru recently. The screenplay is written by actor Macon Blair (also writer of I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, Small Crimes, Hold the Dark, The Toxic Avenger), from a story by Etan Cohen. It’s produced by Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, David Ginsberg, Joshua Grode, and Andrew Lazar. The film hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. MGM will release Barbakow’s Brothers in select US theaters on October 10th, 2024, then streaming on Prime Video starting October 17th coming soon.
