Joe Jonas has denied Sophie Turner’s claims that she learnt of their divorce through the media.
The Jonas Brothers singer, 34, filed paperwork in Florida to end their four-year marriage, with the pair confirming their split in a statement on September 7.
However, in the wake of their relationship ending, the Game of Thrones actress, 27, launched a bombshell lawsuit against her ex, alleging that he is withholding their daughters’ passports in the US, meaning that they cannot travel to England with her.
His reps have since denied this in a lengthy statement, claiming that relocating the kids would be a violation of an order from the court.
They also denied the star’s suggestion that she found out about their ongoing divorce ‘from the media’, alleging that she ‘was aware he was going to file’ the documents beforehand.
A spokesperson for the dad-of-two added that the court in Florida entered an order restricting both from relocating with their daughters, and that Sophie was served with the order on September 6 – meaning that moving them would be in violation of this.
‘Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting this past Sunday in New York, when Sophie came to New York to be with the kids’ the statement, shared with Metro.co.uk, read. ‘They have been with her since that meeting.
‘Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup.
‘Less than 24 hours later, Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately. If he complies, Joe will be in violation of the Florida Court order.’
‘Joe is seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father, and is of course also okay with the kids being raised both in the US and the UK. The children were born in the US and have spent the vast majority of their lives in the US. They are American citizens.’
Sophie and Joe tied the knot in 2019 after around three years of dating, and have remained fiercely private over their relationship ever since.

However, they left fans stunned when they confirmed their divorce just a few weeks ago, releasing a joint message on Instagram.
Today, the Do Revenge star filed documents in Manhattan, requesting to secure ‘the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained’, alleging that the ‘wrongful retention’ began on September 20.
According to the paperwork, obtained by PageSix, it was claimed that the former couple had previously agreed to move to England together, and were said to be ‘excited’ for the next step in their lives.
After relocating to the UK in April, Sophie is said to have started filming for her upcoming project, Joan, before Joe then embarked on a tour with his brothers – but they were able to agree ‘with hesitation’ on a ‘temporary arrangement’ for the kids to be with him during this period as he would have more free time.
In the documents, it was claimed that their marriage then broke down ‘very suddenly’ following an alleged argument in August.
‘The father has possession of the children’s passports,’ the paperwork reportedly added. ‘He refuses to return the passports to the mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the mother.’
