World Cup winning coach Jacques Nienaber will begin work with Leinster this morning, having flown in from South Africa over the weekend.
The new senior coach has concluded his commitments with the South African Rugby Union, and is expected to be at the province’s training session in UCD today.
Nienaber is taking over from Stuart Lancaster six weeks into the season, with his commitments with the Springboks, whom he guided to the Webb Ellis trophy last month, delaying his arrival.
Leinster’s big worry from their 21-16 win over Munster on Saturday is the arm injury suffered by Ross Byrne and the province will provide an update today.
Meanwhile, Munster coach Graham Rowntree says he won’t hurry in naming a new captain after Peter O’Mahony stood down from the role last weekend.
Hooker Diarmuid Barron led the side in their defeat to Leinster on Saturday and the head coach says he’ll continue to name the skipper on a game by game basis for the time being, before confirming O’Mahony’s replacement.
The Corkman had held the role for more than a decade and led the side against the Stormers, only to announce his decision last week in a move that has led to speculation he’ll take over from Johnny Sexton as Ireland captain.
“I respect his decision. He’s been great for this club, an icon of this club,” Rowntree said.

“Who that captain will be, we will name in due course. I’m not being rushed into that. We’ve got a strong leadership group which he will still be part of, and will drive on.”
O’Mahony’s shoulder injury is not as bad as first feared and Munster are hopeful he and Jack O’Donoghue can get back for their Champions Cup opener against Bayonne on Saturday week.
New signing Oli Jager could make his debut against Glasgow this Friday.
“He has landed, he was in the building,” Rowntree said. “He got in Thursday morning. He will be looking to hit training properly on Monday.”
