The HiPhi Y electric SUV will hit the Chinese market on July 15. Previously, its starting price was revealed in China at 369,000 RMB (~52,200 USD). So, the HiPhi Y is clearly aimed to rival the Nio ES6 NT2 that was launched in late May this year. HiPhi also pointed out that the launch will become an international premiere with a key audience in China, Japan, the UK, Germany, Norway and Saudi Arabia.

We will remind you that HiPhi is a high-end car brand under the Human Horizons Company, launched in 2019. Its first model was the HiPhi X luxury CUV. As for the second car, it was the HiPhi Z sedan. These vehicles both are quite expensive, with a starting price of 500,000 yuan (70,700 USD) in China and 105,000 EUR (116,800 USD) in Germany (HiPhi Z starting price).

Recently, HiPhi’s sales were quite low in China, but the company was saved by the huge investment from Saudi Arabia, receiving 5.6 billion USD. Anyway, HiPhi still needs to increase its sales. And the HiPhi Y looks like the brand’s only chance to jump in the mass market segment, increasing volume.

More facts about the HiPhi Y

The HiPhi Y is a mid-size SUV that follows the signature HiPhi design language. It has huge LED running lights that can project images. They are connected together with a thin LED strip. Above the windshield of the Y, we can notice the LiDAR sensor. It means it will become the first HiPhi model to have this feature. The Y hasn’t got door handles at all. Instead, there are buttons on each door. Speaking about doors of the HiPhi Y, they are its main feature. The rear doors are divided into two segments. The lower looks like a normal door, while the upper one is a gull-wing door.

Now, let’s move on to the dimensions of the HiPhi Y. They are 4938/1958/1658 mm with a wheelbase of 2950 mm. So, it is 84 mm longer, 27 mm thinner and 45 mm lower than the Nio ES6 NT2. Inside, the HiPhi Y got only five seats. Moreover, it tries to shock you with its screens. It has three screens: one for the instrument panel, one for the front passenger, and one for the main screen. And, in case these monitors aren’t enough, there is an HUD. Aside from screens, the HiPhi Y got 25 speakers from Meridian.

Speaking about the powertrain of the HiPhi Y, there are several options. The entry-level car is equipped with a single electric motor on the rear axle for 336 hp. It is powered by the FinDream’s (a battery maker under BYD) LFP Blade battery for 76.6 kWh. With this battery, the Y can run up to 560 km on a single charge. As for the second battery option, it is a CATL ternary (NMC) battery for 115 kWh. The RWD HiPhi Y‘s range with this battery reaches 810 km. The same battery is available for the 4WD version with 504 hp, good for 765 km of range.

The price range of the HiPhi Y has yet to be revealed. But we do know that its starting price will be 369,000 RMB (~52,200 USD).

HiPhi Y launch

As mentioned, the HiPhi Y will officially launch on July 15. According to HiPhi, it will be the international event that will be aimed at six major markets for HiPhi: China, Japan, the UK, Germany, Norway and Saudi Arabia. The launch event itself will take place at the Bulgari Hotel Shanghai. At the same time, the first batch of HiPhi Y will arrive at dealer centers for a test drive. In total, the Y will hit 30 dealer centers in 24 Chinese cities. In total, the HiPhi Y will be available in six body colors.

It isn’t a surprise that the HiPhi Y will initially hit the Chinese market. HiPhi has recently opened pre-sales for X and Z models in Germany and Norway. As for the HiPhi Y, it will enter the European market only in 2024. As for the other countries that were mentioned in the launch announcement, we have even less detailed information. HiPhi should enter their markets until 2025. We will keep an eye on the HiPhi Y, so stay tuned!
