A 16-year-old student of class 11 of a residential school in Haryana’s Rewari allegedly jumped to his death from the balcony of his hostel room on the third floor on Friday. He also left a suicide note, accusing the school of harassing him.
According to a TOI report, the teenager, a resident of Mahendergarh, who had been studying in the school for the past six years, complained about the “atmosphere” in the institution, saying “teachers don’t teach” and “everyone is busy trying to make money Illegally”, in his note.
“I am harassed in the school. The atmosphere here is not good. Teachers don’t teach. Everyone is busy trying to make money illegally. It is not everyone’s cup of tea to become an officer. I asked everyone to take me out of this place but to no avail. My friends too cheated on me. I am fed up and can’t take it anymore,” the suicide note read.
A spokesperson for Rewari police said the boy jumped off the balcony around 5:30 am on Friday.
“An investigation has been initiated to find out if the boy was harassed. We have retrieved CCTV footage and are examining them. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy. The reports are awaited,” he said.
The family of the boy filed a complaint at Kund police outpost, following which, a case for abetment of suicide was lodged against the school.
The school’s board of administration in Delhi has also launched an internal probe into the case.
