Geely Zeekr 001 becomes the fastest Chinese EV on famous track

Geely Zeekr 001 FR became the fastest Chinese mass-produced electric vehicle (EV) on the Zhejiang International Circuit. The Zeekr 001 needed 1:37:041 to cross the 3.2 km circuit, coming only behind the Porsche 911 Turbo S, which clocked 1:32:232.

The Zeekr 001 FR raced as part of the Track Lap Time CircleMFKing Z test organized by Shanghai Keys Motorsport and the circuit. The organizers have been testing the speed of mass-produced cars since 2018 and have so far tested 125 models. The top 3 models are the Ferrari F90 Stradale with 1:30:274 minute, the Ferrari 488 Pista with 1:31:554 minute, and the fastest EV on the track, Porsche 911 Turbo S.

The Zeekr 001 was launched on September 1 when it started to receive blind orders. Deliveries are set to begin next month, and only 99 units will be delivered each month. Zeekr teased that the supercar price would be over 1 million yuan (140,000 USD).

The AWD performance car has four electric motors with 1,247 hp and a 280 km/h top speed. FR stands for Future Roads. The acceleration of 0-100 km/h is 2.37 seconds. Thanks to its four independent electric motors, the car can perform a tank turn (U-turn). The performance EV has quad engines. In front, the vehicle is powered by a pair of 155 kW motors; at the rear, there are two 310 kW motors. The rear motor uses carbon fiber to wrap the rotor. The total power density is 4.4W/kg.

The electric car also features a track-level braking system – AP Racing 10-piston calipers in front mated with 4-piston calipers at the rear and Brembo’s carbon ceramic brake discs. It has racing wheels – 22″ GTR2 tires from Giti Motorsport. The front has 265/40 R22 and the rear 295/40 R22.

The track, which is often called Chinese Nürburgring, is considered to be one of the most challenging tracks in the country. It was designed by Apex Circuit Design and opened in 2016. The anti-clockwise track features 16 curves. The difference between the circuit’s lowest and highest point is 22 m. The way is 12 m wide. The track hosted TCR Asia and China Series, China GT Championship, Touring Car Master Challenge, Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific, Asian Formula Renault and GT Asia Series, etc.
