The man was discovered dead at a property at Kilross, just outside Tipperary Town, at 4am
Gardaí are investigating the death of a man in Tipperary amid fears he may have been the victim of an assault over Christmas.
The man – who is not an Irish national – was discovered dead at a property at Kilross, just outside Tipperary Town.
The grim discovery was made early on Wednesday morning.
Initial indications are that the man had visible injuries and Gardaí want to determine whether these were sustained in an accident such as a fall or an assault.
There was no sign of forced entry at the property and no indication of a robbery.
Gardaí have sealed off the scene and a forensic examination of the property will be conducted by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.
The body of the man has been removed from the Tipperary property to University Hospital Waterford (UHW).
A full post mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted on Thursday morning.
Gardaí stressed that the findings of the post mortem examination will now determine the nature of their investigation.
They are conducting door-to-door inquiries in the rural area to determine if anyone heard or saw anything suspicious at the property over Christmas.
Detectives also want to determine who may have been with the deceased over recent days.
They are also working to clarify if the man may have been socialising with others over the past 72 hours.
Detectives want to determine when the man was last seen in the Tipperary Town/Kilross areas.
“Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body of a man in Tipperary,” a spokesperson said.
“The man was discovered deceased at a residence in Ballycrana, Kilross, shortly after 4am on Wednesday (December 27).”

“The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged, the results of which will determine the course of the Garda investigation.”
“The scene remains preserved at this time for a forensic and technical examination. Any person with any information that can assist Gardaí with this investigation are asked to contact Tipperary town Garda station on 062 80670, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
It is understood the man was working in the south Tipperary area and would regularly socialise in Tipperary Town.
He had moved to Ireland a number of years ago for work reasons.
One local source said it was believed the man was originally from Eastern Europe.
