Carlos Alcaraz resumes his French Open campaign on Wednesday while the match of the day takes place between Iga Swiatek and Naomi Osaka.
Defending champion and world No 1 Swiatek is looking to make it three-in-a-row at Roland Garros and takes on four-time grand slam winner Osaka in a tantalising match-up. They’re third up on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Wimbledon champion Alcaraz is in action before them with Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev the other high-seeded men in second round action.
Elsewhere in the women’s singles, on a rain-delayed fourth day in Paris, US Open champion Coco Gauff takes on Slovenian qualifier Tamara Zidansek after home favourite Caroline Garcia was knocked out by former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.
Yesterday, Katie Boulter and Dan Evans joined the British exodus from Roland Garros, with all six British players entered in the main draw failing to reach the second round in Paris

French Open: Carlos Alcaraz 6-3 5-4 Jesper De Jong
This is great stuff from Jesper de Jong, who continues to do Alcaraz things against the man himself. The qualifier takes another hold with an inside-out forehand down the line.
He’s right in this second set, that’s for sure, and pushed for the break in the ninth game. Alcaraz saved break point with a big forehand, shouting “Vamos” as it lands inside the line.
Alcaraz is needing to lift it, here, with the Dutchman putting on a real fight under the Philippe-Chatrier roof.

French Open: Rain, rain go away
We’re starting to confirmation that this afternoon’s doubles matches are being postponed until tomorrow. With a three-day start, the first round of the singles was completed on time on Tuesday but it looks as if the second round will be impacted if this continues. We’ve still only had two completed matches today, both under the roof.

French Open: Carlos Alcaraz 6-3 2-2 Jesper De Jong
Jesper de Jong is trying to do his best Carlos Alcaraz impression against the man himself, including whatever this shot was in one of their exchanges at the start of the second set. It won him the point!
De Jong then holds serve in an epic 10-minute game, sealed with a flying forehand! He’s playing his part on Philippe-Chatrier, that’s for sure.

French Open: FIRST SET! Ons Jabeur 6-3 Camila Osorio
The Tunisia flags are flying on Suzanne-Lenglen as Ons Jabeur powers a drive volley to take the opening set against Camila Osorio.
One of the most popular players at any grand slam, could this be the year Jabeur is able to win her first grand slam on the Paris clay? She reached the quarter-finals here last season and, as a former Madrid champion, she seems to suit the clay conditions.

French Open: FIRST SET! Carlos Alcaraz 6-3 Jesper De Jong
Alcaraz swats away a volley at the net to take the opening set 6-3 against De Jong in 43 minutes. The Spaniard grew into that after a slow start, while he’s enjoying some of the exchanges at the net with De Jong looking to bring variety into the contest.
He’ll look to cut out some of the errors in the second.

French Open: Carlos Alcaraz 5-3 Jesper De Jong
De Jong is bringing a lot to this opening set, with his touch and eye for a drop shot around the net, so it’s not going all of Alcaraz’s way. The Dutch qualifier was even 0-40 on the Alcaraz serve but the Spaniard saved all three break points on his way to moving a game away from the opening set.

Some more signs of life from Alcaraz as he flashes a backhand winner straight down the line, on his way to getting his second break of the opening set.

David Goffin claims he was ‘spat’ at by fan during raucous French Open win
Belgian player David Goffin claims he was “spat” at by a fan as he accused crowds at the French Open of “total disrespect” during his first-round victory over the local favourite Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Goffin, the former World No 7, triumphed over his French opponent in a marathon five-set match on Tuesday, which was played out in front of a raucous atmosphere on Court 14.
Mpetshi Perricard, the 20-year-old wildcard, had the full support of the home crowd but Goffin said fans went “too far”. The 33-year-old Goffin was jeered as he left the court after his win, as he held his hand to his ear.
“When you are insulted for three, three and a half hours, you have to tease the public a little,” Goffin told Belgian media, as reported by Reuters. “Clearly, it goes too far, it’s total disrespect.
