Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Northern Cape

The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is an excellent option if you’re a raptor fanatic. Situated in the Kalahari Desert, Kgalagadi is home to many other beautiful different species of birds, such as the Dusky Sunbird, the Fairy Flycatcher, and, of course, the famous Sociable Weavers who create giant nests on the telephone polls.
South Coast, KwaZulu Natal
Not only is the South Coast a beautiful beach holiday destination, but it is also home to more than 500 bird species. There are numerous reserves and parks where serious twitchers and novice birders can spend their days looking for their ‘bucket-list birds.’
West Coast National Park, Western Cape

Thousands of terns, waders, and other seabirds can be spotted in the West Coast National Park which is one of the best birding spots in South Africa. This coastal park is an important area for migratory birds, and the best time to visit is during the summer months.
Pilanesberg National Park, North West
Pilanesberg has varied habitats like grasslands, wetlands, woodlands, and rocky outcrops, resulting in various bird life in the area. Look out for the gorgeous Goliath Heron, the Brown Snake Eagle, and the elegant Secretary Bird, among other species.
Addo Elephant Park, Eastern Cape
Addo doesn’t just home large herds of elephants. Along with its range of wildlife is its exciting bird life. Birders will love spending time searching for the Kori Bustard or the Africa Firefinch in Addo Elephant Park.
Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga/ Limpopo

As one of the biggest game reserves in South Africa, it comes as no surprise that the Kruger National Park is famous for its fascinating birdlife. Twitchers spend holidays and weekends scouring the Kruger skies and trees for a chance to spot different bird species.
Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, Gauteng
This protected area of the Suikerbosrand range is one of Gauteng’s most visited eco-destinations and birding spots. Keep your eyes open for Black Eagles, Sentinel Rock Trushes, Ground woodpeckers, and Black Harriers when visiting the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve.
Golden Gate National Park, Free State
The Free State isn’t as well known as other provinces for its bird life but offers the chance to spot a variety of different and beautiful bird species. If visiting the Golden Gate National Park, watch out for the Cape Vulture, the rare Lammergeier, and Bald Ibis.
